My Great Assurance

(S) Scripture
      Job 9:33-35 (NIV)
33  If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both,
34  someone to remove God's rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more.
35  Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot.

(O) Observation
Job desperately wanted an arbitrator between him and God. He knew he could not stand on his own but needed an advocate.

(A) Application
I also desperately need an arbitrator. The Good News is that I have one in God’s Son, Jesus. Jesus is the one that takes God’s wrath away from me. He is the one who took God punishment for my sin on himself. My faith in Jesus’ provision for me assures me of my place with God. I am no longer under God’s wrath but am now His child. I am so fortunate to have Jesus as my Savior, Advocate and Arbitrator

(P) Prayer

Thank you for loving me enough to send your Son to die in my place and to take your wrath from me. Let me forever live with a grateful heart for what you have done for me through your Son. Amen

God’s Expectations

(S) Scripture
         Acts 12:7-8 (NIV)
7  Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. "Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists.
8  Then the angel said to him, "Put on your clothes and sandals." And Peter did so. "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me," the angel told him.

(O) Observation
God did for Peter what he could not do for himself (remove chains and open prison doors) but expected Peter to do what he could (put on his clothes and sandals).

(A) Application
There are things that God does not do for me or force me to do. My daily time with Him must be my decision and I must make the time and keep it. God will not force this on me. If I want to experience what God has for me I need to spend time with Him and time in His Word.

(P) Prayer

Lord remind me when I have neglected my time with you. I want to know you better and follow you closer and to do so I must spend time with you. Hear my prayer today, Amen
